Salthússmarkaðurinn

Diverse selection of arts and crafts in Stöðvarfjörður

Each summer a versatile group of craftswomen and men open their doors and welcome tourist in their summer market, Salthússmarkaðurinn. A great selection and creative thinking makes this market an essential stop for the design and handicraft enthusiast on their way to or from Fjarðabyggð. The selection covers everything from the traditional arts and crafts, to jewellery, glass and ceramic art amongst other handmade artwork.

The market started its establishments in the old salt fish factory in Stöðvarfjörður, from where they get their name. This stunning arts and crafts market has since then relocated and is now in the local community centre along with Fjarðabyggð's Visitors Centre which opened in the summer of 2015.

At the Visitors Centre travellers can get general tourist information on Fjarðabyggð and surrounding areas, so we recommend that you stop by on your way through Stöðvarfjörður to obtain useful information about the travel services in Fjarðabyggð.

In 2015 the walls of the Salthússmarkaðurinn are decorated with interesting and beautiful photographs depicting the famous East Icelandic fog, describing in a visual way the amazing phenomenon that the fog is.
