Military Occupation Day

In collaboration with the Icelandic Wartime Museum

The military occupation of Reyðarfjörður, when the first British troops arrived in 1940, is commemorated on the last weekend of June by special events at the Icelandic Wartime Museum and elsewhere. Restaurants offer fish and chips at reduced prices, while soldiers, vivacious women and army vehicles appear all around town.

The Military Occupation Day in Reyðarfjörður is celebrated on the last Sunday of June or the first Sunday of July.
