Sailor's Day

One of Fjarðabyggð's biggest summer festivals

The Sailor's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of June in Iceland and is especially celebrated in towns and villages where the fishing industry is a major part of the society. In Fjarðabyggð that is Fáskrúðsfjörður, Eskifjörður and Neskaupstaður.

In Neskaupstaður and Eskifjörður there is a comprehensive program from Thursday till Sunday while the program starts on Saturday in Fáskrúðsfjörður. All of these places offer plenty of entertainment and a wide variety of food and drink. The activities include wading and swimming in the sea, sea angling, church services dedicated to sailors, rowing and pier fishing competitions, market fairs, face painting and a good deal of splashing and other fun.

In Eskifjörður, a Norwegian Days festival is held on the same long weekend.

It is safe to recommend the Sailor's Day in Fjarðabyggð as a diverse and eventful family fun.
