The French Graveyard

The resting place of French seamen

Just east of the village, the cemetery includes a monument with the names of 49 French and Belgian seamen who lost their lives off Iceland. During the French Days festival of 2009, representatives of a seafarers' organisation in Fáskrúðsfjörður's sister community in France, Gravelines, handed over new crosses for the French seamen's graves.

The cemetery is clearly visible from the main road, on the eastern side of the twon, and there is a good trail down to it.
