Egilsstaðir International Airport

Centre of transportation in East Iceland

Egilsstaðir International Airport is one of four airports in Iceland which fulfill requirements for international flights. Located just about in the center of East Iceland, on the banks of Lagarfljót river, there is only a 20-30 min drive to Reyðarfjörður village in Fjarðabyggð.

The air terminal was originally built in the period from 1963 to 1968, and was rebuilt and expanded during the years 1987 to 1999.

New arrivals hall was formally taken into use in April 2007.

Flight and approach conditions are excellent and weather conditions are favourable for aviation as well. Reliability of scheduled flights is therefore very good, or close to 99%.

The Airport Director and District Manager in East Iceland is Jörundur Hilmar Ragnarsson.
