Transportation to Mjóifjörður

It is 55 km from Reyðarfjörður to Mjóifjörður, travelling via Fagridalur valley on Route 92 and then towards Mjóifjörður on Route 953. From Egilsstaðir, the distance to Mjóifjörður is slightly over 40 km. Note that Route 953 is only gravel, so you need to take care and drive slowly in the steeper parts, which also include some sharp turns. Since this road is not cleared in winter, it often stays closed due to snow from sometime in October till sometime in May.

However, there are scheduled ferry trips throughout the year, with Anný providing transportation between Neskaupstaður and Brekka village in Mjóifjörður. Anný plies this route on Tuesdays and Thursdays, leaving Mjóifjörður village at 10:00 in the morning and Neskaupstaður at 12:30. You can also ask about trips at other times by telephoning +354 853 3004 or 616 2630.
