Hólmanes Nature Reserve

Ideal for outdoor recreation.

Hólmanes and part of Hólmaháls peninsula were designated as protected areas in 1973, as a country park to the north and as a nature reserve to the south, determined by the different ownership of the areas.

The flourishing bird life and unusual rock formations make it extremely pleasant for outdoor recreation, whether up among the cliffs or down at the shoreline.

A path leading into the reserve starts at a small parking lot by the National Route 92.

The entire area is, however, subject to the same rules. Pedestrian traffic is unrestricted provided the general rules of conduct are adhered to. Do not damage vegetation or disturb wildlife. Construction, removal or disturbance of earth/ soil and the use of firearms are prohibited in the area.

The area is perfect for recreation and is ideal for teaching and natural science education, as the landscape and flora and fauna are diverse and the geology interesting.
